The Foundation

The skills are teachable. The teaching is what's inconsistent.

The Foundation exists because what a young person learns before they age out too often depends on which coach they were assigned.

Why we built it

Every year young people leave foster care and are expected to handle a lease, a paycheck, a clinic, and a bank account with almost no preparation. The programs serving them are not the problem. Coaches in transitional living facilities are some of the most committed people in the field — and most of them are buried in scheduling, paper notes, and documentation that eats the hours they meant to spend coaching.

Meanwhile the funders keeping those programs open want evidence. Not effort, not attendance — evidence that a young person can do something in month six they couldn't do in month one. Most programs have no way to produce it.

The Foundation was built to close both gaps at once: a consistent curriculum that doesn't depend on staffing, and the proof of progress that comes out of it automatically.

What we believe

Young people are not the barrier

Give someone a clear path and a reason to walk it and they will. The barrier is that no one ever laid out the path.

Consistency beats intensity

Thirteen structured modules, worked through steadily, do more than a heroic month before someone's birthday.

Evidence keeps programs alive

Documentation isn't bureaucracy. It's how good programs get renewed and expanded instead of quietly defunded.

Where we are now

The curriculum is built. The student, coach, and case manager portals are built. We are looking for a small number of programs willing to run the first pilots and tell us plainly what's wrong with it.
